The Retro-PES Corner

It wasn't as easy to take information as right now for example PES5.

About facemaking with AI, i don't think an AI could recreate that easier faces with the IG editor. At least for old pics : as i was recreating all PES5 faces with it for PS2, i could say that firstly it's pretty long and exhausting work, and second, it's not that easy to found faces from that era in good resolution.
The research is probably the hardest part of the problem. You need to found his real facial expression (not one where he's frowing as he got the sun in his face, or smiling for the picture)

So yes i would took AI for a basis if it gives good results, but you need to makes some retouch after. Perhaps i'm too perfectionnist as i worked on faces for Pes 2019 to 2021 (several facemakers forgot to looks at the side part of the face, and in game the players looks awful)
But what i hate the most it's preset "man-made" faces with a big smile or a very weird expression that replace another good preset.

Well in PES 2008 Ps2 (original season) is suffering from a bad copy-paste from the Ps3 version directly over the Ps2, many faces doesn't looks like the real one.
I replaced Drogba face on every 2008 version Iso, i know there's more players than him to restore : he's just my favourite and so the worst for me lol.

A small tips for switching preset for original seasons : taking the ones for PES 2010/JLWE2010 faces. Practicallly every player got a preset with nice rendering on Ps2 and they looks retouched. probably for PsP more than Ps2 but whatever.

Hey guys! I'm a big PES 5 fan. I read that WE9LE was getting a lot of praise, so I decided to give it a try.

But I was a little disappointed. I started with the same settings, a 6* ML with Castolo and Minanda, to make the same comparison as with PES 5. I found WE9LE much easier. Sure, the game corrects the bad refereeing and the AI's aggression, resulting in fewer fouls, but it doesn't really improve the AI's attacking.

Also, I feel like the User players attributes are boosted. It's easier to dribble and hold onto the ball, whereas in PES 5, it's a real struggle to even manage a simple touch.
We (with some others members) got the same feeling. It feels like a mixed Pes5 with Pes6 in some area, like dribbling (except the side-step), moving and ball physics. It's not that i hate that version but i'll pass and prefers plays WE9/PES5/JLWE9 than that one by miles.
And at least on Ps2 you can compare and switch : it's as fast as Pes6.

@H_G I got all but only from WE9 (when stats started to got a "rating system" less random) so for WE7 no, but i got it for JLWE10, the only one i miss on my excel files is the Aoki 2010.
Download everything here, but it's in japanese for J-League version, you have to copy paste for teams. Player's order is the same as the base formations in WE/PES : https://www.mediafire.com/file/ccbi1zjpj3iem2y/WE_and_PES_DB_Exports_Stats_excel.rar/file
I need to convert the files to csv ?

No, no it's already put in case without the separation like "," parameters.
You can open with whatever Calc you want, Open or Libre Office, Microsoft Excel.
An advertissement when you open a file like that is always the case when that one was created with for example Calc and you want to open it with Excel.

I was able to buy PES5 PS2 original disc yesterday for 15000 argentinean pesos (almost 11usd) I'm really happy!

With the savings you made, you treated yourself to an impromptu lunch too it seems 😄

Edit: @geeeeee I probably should have read the posts under before commenting. The hour may be late with your patches but you're quick fire draw billy the kid in the comments 🤠

I can second this, it's a great manual. It goes into really good detail but isn't as dry as one might expect.

Just expanding on the PES 5 / WE9LE comparisons posted earlier...

PES 5 has long been my favourite but on hearing how WE9LE is an improved version, I jumped on it a while ago. At first, I was convinced it was better but now, having played it a lot, I'm not so sure.

As previously stated, ball physics are different and, in my opinion, not as good. Shooting in WE9LE is good but it lacks the variety of PES 5. I've noticed less variety in direction, less in-off a post or bar etc. Shots seem to go more centrally.

Yes the AI is a little more aggressive in attack but the way the keepers have been tweaked leads to just as many 0-0s and 1-0s in WE9LE as PES 5 - one of the latter's main criticisms.

And as someone mentioned earlier, WE9LE is easier, in a way. Beating the best teams seems easier to me, perhaps because they are more direct and attack more. Beating the weaker teams seems harder. PES 5 is the opposite which, of course, is how it should be.

I won back-to-back Champions League titles on my WE9LE Master League just a few seasons in. I'm six seasons into another PES 5 ML and have won nothing. Certainly not the Champions League, although I do have a strict 'no superstar players' rule when it comes to my squad.

In conclusion, and having played them all, I think PES 5 remains the most balanced, the most challenging and the best PES game there is. The best footy game of all time, in my opinion. And yes, I even like the super-strict referees!

you play pes 5 in master league and call it the best PES ever with that abysmal stamina management? even starting in div 2, let alone div 1 with three competitions to win?

consider me baffled, honestly. =)

i can see the argument for PES 5 apart from ML with all the praise for gameplay, variety, AI etc - but as someone who plays mainly ML on the old ps2 games, i could never rank pes 5 on #1.

I like the stamina system! It forces you to actually manage your squad and rotate - especially when there's a cup game midweek.

I like WE9LE also but my main issue is the ball physics. If there is a way to port the ball physics from one PS2 version to another I would take the ball physics from PES5/WE9/JLWE9AC and port them over to WE9LE.

Hi all, I bought a PES 2013 copy for PS2 - unfortunately an Italian version, which I didn't notice at the time of buying. While my Italian is passable enough to order ice cream, it's doesn't quite cut it for a Master League.

Question: is there a way to import a file (option file?) via Max Drive to make the game appear in English? I tried to use this Option File from GameFAQs to replace the original one, but it's not loading properly: it starts option file load screen in English, then suddenly switches back to Italian, actually loads the file, but then black screen.

Anything that can be done, or simply bad luck (and better buy with open eyes next time)?

your best chance is to learn italian, the game texts arent stored in the option file

Did anybody played Pro Evolution 2011, 2012 and 2013 on Nintendo Wii on Dolphin emulator on PC with standard ps2 controller?

I have to say, it is a masterpiece. It is like Pes5/We9Le with everything upgraded.

I uses the old pes engine that everybody loves, but it is upgraded with better ball physics, better animations, better LOD quality, much better and smarter AI and amazing Master League.

I didnt even know that Nintendo Wii version of Pes even exists until recently.

Sounds like you're in need of a FreeMCBoot memory card. Allows you to play games without a disc so you could just download the English language PES 2013.

No, there's more faces (that will create a "delay" so faces will be all messed up) , different amount of players and teams too + they got J1+J2 League.
I'm not familiar with Psp savedata how to open it (with an Hexadecimal edit tool probably, no idea)

Now if you want PES 2014 without any summer rosters missing + some small stats or height/wrong foot adjustement : check the 3DS version, based on the 1,0 Ps3-PC-X360 DLC.
It's the only, the unique old-school version where data are updated on summer and up to date. Plus you can move at 360 degree, sadly there's no pretty good camera, it's hard to edit and you it's kinda "limited" to play (i mean it's not usual to play on that emulator or on the console feel at ease while playing etc.)

Otherwhise it's THE very last special version to try. With Citra emulator you can reduce the second screen on a small part of the side : there's some stuffs indicated on that one but he's not that important at all (in Pes 2011 3ds you have to touch the screen to validate some things i don't remember pretty well)

Talking about Pes 2013 there was a member who did a pretty good option file with all summers transfers + teams created on it not so long ago, around two months.
I'm searching with keyword but no idea where that upload is. If ever you got it or (i talk to everyone) you know where it's located on the forum, don't hesitate, thanks

Edit : it's okay i found it, wasn't in this forum > https://pesnewupdate.com/pes-2013-ps2-option-file-by-danys/
Sometimes it's better a good O.F. with a data more re-worked than all the graphical part in priority, at least to me ;))

Completely underrated on the Wii. They're great fun but you can't be serious saying they are an upgraded PES 5/WE9LE? The gameplay is completely different 😄
