best choice for a noob : we8le vs we9le vs we10le ?

I appreciate the passion of everyone in this forum of keeping these old games alive. There is something very special these games.

That said, I have tried every PS2 variant listed here with PCSX2 and I prefer the PC version every time. I can’t quantify why - something about the gameplay just doesn’t feel right. Maybe it’s a little laggy and unresponsive?
So I think the problem with responsiveness was related to my graphical settings. I play on a Legion go, which is technically a Windows PC, but feels more like a console handheld. If I lower the graphic settings to the absolute minimum, it is extremely responsive, to the point I could make a last second cut as a defender gets just a hair too close

No worries haha and I agree I do the same so only keep the best versions.

So out of the 5 PES5 variants my favourite is either J.League Winning Eleven 9 Asia Championship or Winning Eleven 9 the North American release in February 2006. Both of these are very similar to PES5 but there are some very slight differences. Winning Eleven 9 Liveware Evolution is great too of course but I’ve noticed the ball physics are a bit worse.

Yeah WE8LE especially with the Reefur patch is one of the best WE/PES games ever so that definitely needs to remain in your rotation.

Winning Eleven 6 Final Evolution - specifically the GameCube one is amazing. Haven’t played much of the PS2 version but I remember back in the day people said the GameCube version felt like it had increased degrees of movement because it was only playable with the analog stick, you can’t use the directional pad like you can on the PS2 version so it makes sense.

PES 2008, WE 2008 and J.League 2008 all have some of the best AI in the series so you can’t go wrong with any of them. The J.League one came several months later so there are some gameplay differences.

Also WE 2010 Aoki Samurai on PS2 is a hidden gem in my opinion. Myself and Jackallan fully translated it into English for the first time recently.

On PS1 like you said Winning Eleven 3 Final Version and also Winning Eleven 2002 are the best ones.

And for modern titles PES 2013 is very good and I personally love 2021 too. Just a shame the midfield isn’t more compact. Feels like you have too much space on the pitch.

The Wii games are also incredible and often overlooked by people. Greyhound done a fantastic job and they are great to play with the normal control style and even the Wii Remote style which adds a degree of tactical depth with player positioning.
In your opinion, which is better WE8 LE or WE8 International? Because I saw that the review of WE8 I on metacritic was very good

Okay, I will download it. Thanks for your reply
I second what @BillyKong said out of those. It's a lot of fun and the gameplay is much tighter than WE8/PES 4. However, if you want something that's a lot different than WE8 - PES 2014 on PS2 then winning eleven 6 final Evolution and winning eleven 7 international are a lot of fun once you get used to the different mechanics they have.

I agree with you about WE7 International, I happen to be playing it right now, I got WE7 International Reduxe 3.0, the patch is amazing. As for WE6 FE, I haven't played it yet, and many say the GameCube version is the best, so I'll give it a try later

You should try @BillyKong version. It has some modifications to the Redux patch. Restoring original played etc.

Some people do say the GameCube version is better but I disagree. Although the vanilla GameCube version is visually better than the vanilla PS2 version I feel the gameplay is better on the PS2 version. Plus, the GameCube is minus 1 controller button, so things like super cancel and veering off a scripted sprint isn't a thing in the GameCube version, which in my opinion is a gameplay downgrade. Plus, all the patches are for PS2. Id recommend the Anniversary edition patch of WE6FE as it keeps original players, teams etc but you get real names and kits but I guess that's personal preference. There's quite a few to chose from, the WE6FE English clubs one is good too. It uses we7 lineups but also has lower league English clubs and premier league.

Oh I didn't know the GameCube version of WE6FE doesn't have super-cancel. I will have to check that out.

I remember back in the day when it came out there were quite a few people on here and other forums who said the GameCube version has more degrees of player movement (more than 16) as it was built for the analog stick since the Dpad can't be used on the GameCube version. Did you feel any difference when you played? I thought I did but I'm not sure if it was just my mind tricking me or not. Will need to return to that game at one stage later down the line.

Not sure if it's not on the GameCube version or you have to super cancel with double button press like on PSP PES. Only played it a few times and switched to pS2.Well, I'm a D-pad player when it comes to WE/PES, I just feel a lot more accurate when playing compared to using an analog stick so that may be a contributing reason as to why I prefer the PS2 version. I mean at the end of the day both are top games though.
By the way, I've just downloaded your JL2007 & 2008. Just been trying out the 2007 version you did and I like it because it sticks to the original besides the translation and turf colour. Glad the original chants were kept (at least I think they're the original, only played a couple of games so far). I've noticed on JL2007 that I'm not getting any distortion or blooming when upscaling to 1080p too which seems to happen on every single we and PES patch ever made by anyone, so not sure if it's something you did to stop it happening or whether the original game just doesn't do it but bonus! 😄

I forgot about the J.League 2007 patch. That was the first one I ever done so the quality wasn’t very good and most people find 2008 to be a far better game, myself included. 2008 doesn’t include any chants either. Will hopefully have a huge update for that 2008 patch very soon. Not sure what is causing the blooming issue at 1080p as I’ve never come across it before but I know you are on Android and I’m on PC so might be something to do with that.

2007 is nice but 2008 is the better game I agree. Probably right about the Android PC equation. However, I am having an issue with the 2008 patch due to no fault of yours and I'm guessing it will be only me that has this problem since I'm playing on 4:3 handheld with it. 2007 works great but 2008 has disappearing players at the left and right of my screen which makes it unplayable for me. I'm guessing 2008 has been pre patched into wide-screen. When you update 2008 is there any chance you can set it back to original 4:3. You'd be helping exactly 1 person by doing this 😄 no worries if not though

The reason that is happening is the camera was zoomed out further so it affects the render value. When I update the patch soon I will include some stock original settings for you so you can play in 4:3.

Nice one, appreciate it. I look forward to it the future.
Great work on your patches once again ✌️

I didn't know we7i had a @BillyKong version. I searched on youtube and found the reduxe version, so I downloaded it. Thanks for the info.

I agree with you, the PS2 version of we6fe has more patches, while the Gamecube version I found lacks most of the logos and uniforms. By the way, where can I get the we6fe anniversary edition you recommended?
