EA SPORTS FC 26

Has ea made some adjustments to thr authentic mode under the hood?
I've just played a game as inter miami against redbull on worldclass difficulty, players felt more grounded, they had more weight. Passing and shooting errors left and right from both sides. Cpu trying through balls, making simple crossing error sending it to the side of the net.
IDK, it felt really great and everything seemed like we would see in a real match

Edit: and first touch errors. Both me and cpu had difficulties trying to control the lobbed and hard passes

It's a relief to see feedback pointing out the massive advantage attacking players have, yet it won't be heard because it's the opposite of the "make it fast make it fun" direction.

...and a great example of how having so many systems (attributes, playstyles, FCIQ, tactical instructions, Advanced Defending, Tactical Defending, assisted / semi / manual / "precision" options, and specific input commands to force certain basic actions) will inevitably clash and create a messy, easier to exploit gameplay if they're not balanced absolutely perfectly:

(which I don't think is humanly possible with so much crossover)

I don't understand what this aberration is, that the players' physiques look like bloated, diaper-wearing fat people.
There is no way that EA programmers, designers, find it acceptable. Look at the gameplay.

Now look at the screenshot. Probably what causes this effect is the damn physics on the shirt.

When I tried out the old FIFA games, there are also parts of the series where the players look too thin. I've also noticed that in the FC games, the players look as if they are fat, as in your screenshots.

is FC26 better optimised? I haven't played since Fifa23 and admittedly I have an old system. All the Fifa's between 16 and 22 played ultra smoothly at the highest settings but I had to set everything low on 23 and it still lagged. I'm not sure why as the previous Fifa's all looked miles better than 23 and the only thing I can put it down to is the hypermotion.

I still think 16-22 looked better than FC24-26 but I'm interested in FC26 for the authentic gameplay. It looks like a good base and could have the potential for modders to make it great.

Also, is it me or does the PS5/Xbox versions of the game look better in terms of animations and things like crosses looking less floaty? I remember seeing Fifa 22 on next gen consoles with hypermotion and being blown away by it, I thought it looked amazing but Fifa 23 on PC just didn't seem as good

I really want to like this game, but I think that is more down to the fact I am craving an up to date football game that I fall in love with again.

I am really struggling with the lack of fouls, lack of weight to anything (passing, challenges, headers) and general feel of the game. The AI are so passive in parts, even in Authentic mode. Matt and Saturator do a great job with slider settings but should it really come to that for a game marketed at £70+?

I am only 5 hours in to my trial and I have already lost that excitement to play another game.

So they sort of do want some form of AI defending...

Also, I worry about what happens repeatedly in these situations - the "quick fix" that just keeps adding to the instability rather than fixing the core.

Instead of going "well the defence is lined up as it would be in reality, what is the gameplay balancing issue that's causing this problem" - the "fix" is instead a plaster (band-aid), i.e. let's give the defenders a brain for the first ten seconds and make them dumb again after that.

I wonder how many on this forum go out of their way to look for things specifically to complain about. As above for example. Someone needs to go back to Fifa 08 (PS3/X360), and see the sumo's that used to be in the game

I don't think people go out of their way , the frustrating thing is this forum back in the day was all about single player experience and having somewhat one then two really good representations of football. FIFA because the game of choice for many from 08-17 including me before I jumped back to PES. The issue is once competitive online play were billions can be made they listened to that crowd (why wouldn't they) and the fundamentals of football disappeared to what were are left with now. Skating , ball travelling through players , poor AI defending and load of goals and not much defending and zero fouls. That isnt an authentic representation of football which is what's been advertised for nearly £100 a pop

The price point is mental, but when you think that Super Mario 3 on the NES in 1992 was £40, which is £89 in today's money, we actually get a lot more for it compared to then. I've stuck with both personally. I continued to buy the annual PES release alongside FIFA until 2019, where I only bought PES 2020. I also skipped Fifa 06 for some reason, I guess PES 5 was the main one. I think some ruin it for themselves by looking too deeply. Just look at the game for what it is, a game. As I guarantee that something that was a 1-for-1 copy of the real match would be far from enjoyable to play. I remember everyone complaining CoD was the same year in year out, so they changed it up with jetpacks, and people complained again, wanting the old ways back again. I was simply noticing some picking out some of the most nonsensical and trivial things to complain about

I'm glad you like the FC games and enjoy playing them.
Unfortunately, the FC games are just an empty shell that use countless animations to convey that technological progress has been made.
Unfortunately, they no longer manage to portray football in a way that even remotely resembles the real thing, and the older games do this much better.
I'm currently playing career mode in FIFA 11 and having more fun than in FIFA 22, 23 and 24. However, FIFA 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21 without Hyper Motions are much better games, more real football.

To put it simply so that everyone understands:

FC games are like Christmas – you look forward to the presents like you did as a child. The packaging looks like all your wishes will be fulfilled. You unwrap it full of euphoria and, like every year, there's just a cheap pack of discount socks inside, like every bloody year!

I don't really mind getting socks these days 😝 All games were better back then. Then money took importance and now the games released are a tenth of what they could be

Lack feel is interesting.

I wondered the other day...if EA made an amazing game this year, but it still felt weightless, would I have any interest in playing it. The answer was almost certainly no. Because weight and inertia, of the ball and players is football. Every play from middle third to final third relies on the inertia of defenders preventing them being able to react to attacks. Pep's entire philosophy for a decade was underpinned by 'tilting' a team towards one flank, before switching play more quickly than they could react to the other flank.

Controlling players is also meaningless if they don't have weight, footplanting and inertia. That leaked pes 14 demo was so amazing not because the gameplay was refined (many parts of it were quite bad) but because the players and ball felt so heavy that just playing it around the back felt compelling moment to moment.

Im playing a lot of tennis elbow 4 atm. It now has mocap animations. Every player feels heavy, hitting the ball feels heavy to the point the game can feel brutal. You literally 'feel' every shot.

Because of inertia and foot planting, just a tiny misstep or even half a misstep on a rally as Rafa whips topspin forehands over and over again at you cross court pushing you further and further wide can be the end of you. It is literally frightening at times, playing defensive topspin backhands with Roger back across court, trying to stay positioned for the next wide forehand from rafa, but knowing that one half step too far wide means being out of position for the one that rafa might hit down the line instead.

This is what defending should feel like in a football game. On the edge, but calculated, moment to moment. It's also how attacking should feel, knowing you've done the same to your opponent.

100% - Everything just feels a bit ‘floaty’ to me. Another thing I have noticed is that games are very much played at the same pace. You don’t get that sense of rush or urgency like you should in a football game. The AI play the same way in the 5th minute when it is 0-0 as they do in the 88th minute when they are a goal down, that does not feel right to me.

When all is said and done, I just come away from playing it with a desperate sense of boredom and feeling unfulfilled.

I am really pleased for people who like it and want to play it, I genuinely wish I could.

I know what you mean in terms of lack of urgency. I remember in pes 2 to 6, there was a ramping up of intensity towards the end of matches. It's funny...until you mentioned it, I'd totally forgotten about the drama of late game pes matches.

It's amazing how much has been taken out of football games over 20 years...

You guys using the "Authentic" mode is nerfing the game experience. This is the "Slow" mode problem all over again. The AI cannot cope with Authentic mode at all making it a much easier and simpler game than intended. Switch to Competitive, turn off the "Authentic features" and use the sliders (go to 99 error if you have to). Trust me, if you find the game boring, you will get a better, more exciting game using Competitive.

With some small changes via modding, this game has gone from a 3/10 playing vanilla "Authentic" to 9/10 using Competitive as a base. I am having as much fun as vanilla FIFA 17 or modded FIFA 20. First time in years that I have found the AI actually good. The problem is EA have made a great game underneath all the smoke and mirrors and for some reason don't understand how to make it work or just remove the features that make it great. They are so scared to just go for it and its really causing an issue. I felt like Authentic took parts of the slowest gameplay mods and then put it in there. There's no thought or testing. Just an easier, "slow" game with dumb AI.

//sorry for the rant

Yep authentic feels too slow, not in a way of making the gameflow slow or fast, but having players slowed down to give that feeling. I didn't moved to competitive, but I used sliders to put acceleration and sprint to 70, as well line height to 80, as well marking to 90 in order to have midfielders to press me when I build my game.
Also a nice side effect that I like is stamina drain, need to think when run or jog.
It got better, also now you have the fear that if you miss a pass the AI will get in your area in few seconds.

Presented without comment.

EDIT: Actually, just one - it's not even the skating, it's the way the ball flies from his arse (with the gentlest of connections) like he's just done a sonic-boom fart-kick that upsets me the most. The game just does not have ball physics.

Your point that "the Authentic mode is somewhat similar to the Slow speed, meaning the AI's level is lowered" does have some merit, as I noticed while watching multiple Closed Beta AI vs AI gameplay videos that the AI in Competitive mode appears smarter.

Okay, so I am going to backtrack a bit here. My experience so far has been purely using Authentic Mode but I thought I would give it another try following the above post by @Paul-v

I switched Authentic Mode off, tweaked a couple of sliders and I must admit the pace/responsiveness of the game feels much better. The CPU are much more challenging to play against too.

Authentic Mode certainly seems to make certain aspects of the game feel quite sluggish and the AI can seem passive.

It’s early days and I’ll have a bit more time to experiment tonight but I am more hopeful that there is something to be enjoyed here.

The random events in career mode are really good. I was on a great run heading into a key match, and then I got hit with spoiled food, half the squad injured, and the other half with their stamina in the gutter. :CONF:

Good to hear. Please update us later if you can...im toying with buying the 10 hour trial...

This is interesting because we are actually discussing this in our OS sliders discord going over what we may be missing out on from a slider perspective. The game feels a bit filtered on Authentic, and not sure they are worth it relative to what we've experienced thus far. For example a lower sprint can be used before jogging animations occur like they do with auth on on higher sprint values. Defensive mids still drop back into the box and follow. Not seeing any significant changes in stamina compared to authentic mode as well.

Overall, my approach is that it's hard to trust devs that have made tactical/roles changes a priority over very basic gameplay logic (see the ball, get the ball, challenge, etc), so the addition of 'authentic features' seems great in theory - but, per track record - terrible in execution.

We're going to test this more in-depth today, but I agree with a lot of what has been said as well.

Those who are playing the game...is there any sort of strategic dimension when playing (with sliders?)

Is there the feeling of drawing teams in at all or playing through the press? Can you recreate patterns from real life at all?

Or is it just pass around a bit then cross/shoot?

This encapsulates exactly what's missing for me. :(

You do have to pass it around for slightly longer on "Authentic", but you aren't causing any holes to form, because the tactical adherence is pixel-perfect.
