• Hotmail/Outlook (any Microsoft email services) folks. Microsoft is currently blocking our emails. We have raised a support ticket with them and will update when we can.

    In the meantime it's possible that adding robot@evoweb.uk to your address book/contacts will help and if you're able to switch to a different email provider, that would work fine.

    We have also increased the number of bounce emails we can handle before accounts are marked as requiring verification again to hopefully mitigate the issue a bit as well.

I just genuinely don't understand how we're so bad with actually closing transfers.

Other clubs just get them done and we faff around for ages until we either overpay or they move to someone else.
 
We used to be good too. That summer we signed Nani, Anderson and Hargreaves was amazing. Hadn't even heard we were interested in the first 2, and then all three were at Carrington in jerseys.

That's the way to do it.

To be fair, Woodward is only slightly more experienced in these things than you and I, so it's maybe unfair to expect much from him. Which is why you WOULD expect us to hire someone who is a specialist.

not saying I have incredible confidence that we'll sign 4 world class players and everything will be fine but its way to early to start moaning about it.

I don't see how, Glazier took over a club that was a force on the pitch and during his era we maintained that success rate. Note: MAINTAINED not improved.

I think without him we could have probably grown as a club, and reached out and had more success on a European front. Had we had the financial support to do so. Rewind pre-Glazier, we are in a strong financial position, we were linked with a £30m bid for a (at the time) rising star Benzema (IIRC) and that money wouldn't have even made the board bat an eyelash.

Let's look after he took all that money, and left us in the most debt of any club in the world, we couldn't compete in the transfer market as we would have done previously and so the on-pitch success and growth stagnated and has stumbled recently - potentially coming to an end now.

I personally blame the Glazier reign on this, and we would not have missed him.
 
Looks like Eddie has done his business again - Cesc to Chelsea then. Good stuff Ed, I look forward to seeing what type of panic-Fellaini-type buy you manage in August this year.

Not like a 27 year old central midfielder who just a few years ago was literally the best player in the league would have helped us. In our crucial capability gap. And is available. And apparently we spent last summer being 'so close' to signing. No. Nothing like that.

Woodward won't go for Fabregas if LVG doesn't want him, which allegedly he doesn't.

Same with Kroos.

God knows who he actually wants though.

Not sure how the press know that LvG doesn't want Fabregas - he's hardly briefing them while off with the Dutch camp.

Think that's some 2+2=5 from the media, as usual.

Will say though that a pairing of Carvalho and Kroos (which is what Moyes wanted, apparently) does sound pretty tasty, albeit unproven.

There can be no greater mistake for LvG than pulling a Moyes and not getting his team together as early as possible. Who knows if the fixture computer will help us with 3 of the toughest matches of the season in the first 5 matches before he can get his feet under the table, but as we don't know I'd be damn sure not to repeat the mistakes of last summer. Cost David his job.

My 2c on the Glazer 'debate':

1. We made our own bed, and we have to lie in it. We floated to gain capital, and got LBO'd. Sucks, but that was the risk.

2. Veron aside, United almost never bought established stars from abroad under SAF. Ever. It's a myth to say had the Glazers not come in we'd of acquired some team of Galacticos. Not the United way.

3. That said, had the Glazers not come in, we COULD have bought a team of Galaticos. At that time we didn't have much debt at all, had incredible cash flow and were the most profitable sporting franchise on the planet. That's why they chose us. Given the increases in both commercial and tv revenues by ALL clubs (not just those pioneered by the demi-God Ed Woodward) it's fair to say we would have remained at the very top of the cash and profit tables.

4. And this is the important bit, we WOULD have used that cash to improve the squad. This would have taken the form, imo, of Fergie's usual approach - buy 4 or 5 promising players and maybe 2 work out. If there is a genuine 'home isles' talent, buy it if we can (Ferdinand, Rooney) at any cost.

5. Without the Glazers' crippling interest payments, we could quite comfortably have spent 50m - 60m per season, and still had profits to re-invest in infrastructure, help season tickets and so forth. We are that big. It's not quite City/Chelsea level of spending, but it would have been close, and you have to imagine we would have gone 'over the line' on certain deals we pulled out of due to cost (Hazard for example).

6. I believe Ferguson would have adjusted his approach if he could have. Fact of the matter is you didn't have to spend 50% more on wages than other top 4 teams to win the league when Arsenal/United were at their peak through the 90's and early 00's. The billionaire clubs changed all that, and Ferguson if nothing else was adaptable. He had us at the top of the English game for the best part of 3 decades.

been an insane 12 months for everyone at the club, :PRAY: we can sign some players and go into the new season confident rather than feeling the pressure of a poor Summer.
 
Really? Best signing we could have made...3 years ago.

Might be a good stop gap while we wait for an actual great fit though.
 
Who Schweiny?!

Dude was the best midfielder in Europe the season before last. world class player and along with hopefully Strootman a top midfield for the next 3-4 years.
 
Just fear his age has caught up to him. 30 this year and has played a TON of football in his career. Lots of injuries this season too.
 
Still managed 36 games last season.

Also hope some of the gloom is lifted and skepticism after Dutch performance tonight, we have a world class manager now so he will get more out of the current squad and knows what players he needs for his system.

Schweiny clearly fits into that.

Will be better than Moyes. That's all any of us can now hope for.

Fergie wasn't exactly humble either, though it was so rare that he failed, it's hard to know his reaction ;)
 
Vermaelen, well.. Umm, he might add some goals to the team? Always did think Vidic lacked that cutting edge in attack? Every cloud right guys? Right? Guys..
 
Nice, if Evra goes we'll at least have a replacement at LB who also gets caught out of position up the pitch when we have to defend.
