• Hotmail/Outlook (any Microsoft email services) folks. Microsoft is currently blocking our emails. We have raised a support ticket with them and will update when we can.

    In the meantime it's possible that adding robot@evoweb.uk to your address book/contacts will help and if you're able to switch to a different email provider, that would work fine.

    We have also increased the number of bounce emails we can handle before accounts are marked as requiring verification again to hopefully mitigate the issue a bit as well.

Manchester United Thread

Small credit to LVG (who I kind of feel sorry for at this point): he has told Luke Shaw that he will play in the Europa League final if we get there, including him in the squad. That's some good man management, really like that.
 
Looks like Maureen is following Sgt Pep to Manchester after all.

My dislike of him will be even greater now (if that's possible)

Ugh. Can't believe he's our only option. Obviously a talented coach and it'll be fascinating to see him take charge of a team that isn't very good and needs development, but he is detestable a lot of the time.

Fergie wasn't nice, but he also wasn't as divorced from morals as Jose.
 
Not just any DoF, the Atletico DoF, which would be a huge coup.

But who knows, LVG says it's not true and he's been brutally honest with the media/fans up til now.
 
I may never have been more wrong about a player than Schneiderlein. Looked class at S'Hampton for a couple seasons.

Is terrible for us. Can't pass, doesn't offer much defensively, gives away costly free kicks and barely even hustles. Waste.
 
His lack of mobility was my reservation about him. Carrick has his qualities but he's no Wanyama in terms of closing opponents down and sharing the defensive load in general.
I don't think top teams should play 2 DMs (unless they're playing Barca/Bayern)

Why you don't play Herrera more is beyond me. He's your 2nd best player imo. Seems to get in for 1 or 2 and then gets dropped for 3 or 4.

All United fans love Herrera and would have him as the third name on the team sheet. But LVG doesn't rate him, and no matter how much fans cheer when he comes on, the message doesn't get across.

Fewer points that Moyes now.

It's a good point, and one United fans need to wisen up to. It's what most sensible ones are saying, and have been for months.

The argument of 'we're United, we have long serving managers' is naivety in the extreme. Here's a list of recent Champions Leagues won by managers in their job for > 3 seasons:

Exactly. Football management is a transient thing now. LVG was a good bet. Cheap, out of work and proven. Totally worth gambling on. And we lost that hand. Problem is we're doubling down, instead of getting out.

LVG will not get us Top 4 this season. Ed has waited so long that no manager will get us Top 4 this season. And so this season, in footballing terms, is a failure. And that falls on the CEO. 2 failures in the 3 years without Ferguson. Is that earning his salary? Maybe commercial revenue is the be all and end all.
 
well, most of those managers got at least a season in and then some got up to 4 years before they were sacked. So I don't think its fair to say that we constantly changed managers. From 1969 - 1986 (17 years) there were 5 managers only (Not counting Busby coming back for a year). That's not that quick of a change in managers in terms of the modern game.

With the bigger picture in mind, firing LvG this season and Moyes last season may not be much, but when those managers between Busby and Ferguson lasted an average of 3.2 years, firing them now can still be considered too quick for a "Manchester United Way". It's just a piece of writing skimming past the years, that makes you think/feel that we changed managers all the time until we found SAF.
 
Things are totally different today though. Even just 10 years ago, loads of managers had >2 years at their clubs in the premier league. Now? Virtually none outside of Wenger. It's crazy.

But it's the same in major European clubs. Just seems like the way of the world.
 
Nah hes been working on his exiting for the past decade. He even terminated his marriage for Arsenal, she's been living in France for 9 yrs. . Whoever comes in they will have no pressure , it's not like Wenger has been winning everything just , FACups resent and 2 friendly shields. SAF is a big ask to fill and Wenger would be a Multiple choice Quiz!
 
That's not true. Wenger brings in stability which is important in nurturing youth and look at what they were able to accomplish. Once a new guy comes in, it'll take a while for the players to get used to a new philosophy and fans to get used to new style....and its tough to always be able to compete for a top 4 spot in the EPL. Just look at us.
 
So just the 8 players who play FB injured for Thursday. Eeesh. Talk about a cursed position!

No Rooney either, which is interesting. Means either Memphis or Will Keane to play up top.

Mutd imo failed by removing the engineers who understood the principles. So , they removed pieces from a successful mold.
Wenger's philosophy has too many holes, he spend big and won a trophy after 9 yrs. Then, spend big again and win another trophy. Stability should not be down by any managers, it should validate by the club's standard of practice ( principles)
I read an article from Tony Adams he said Wenger never focused on defense. The league leaders always had a rock at the back from Vidic+Rio , JT , Kompany and Sol when Arsenal won it last. Spurs has that sort in their defense it's focusing on a element that is pairable . Wenger uses sand mixed w/ water , he lacks the obvious use water + clay .
I'm not convinced by Wenger final assembly line , he's done brilliant w/ the foundation through the middle as structure. It's that final polishing to get us across the line. Arsenal are too soft and elegant in the middle to the back tbh. Koc n Gabriel are clones (water elements). I don't dislike Wenger , but he's too stubborn to change and I feel he'll extend his contract 4 more years.
 
Interesting, Rooney is out for possibly most of the rest of the season, so we now have 0 fit senior centre forwards. Martial is great, but done all his best work from the left.

Good thing we sent Wilson out on loan, got rid of Chic, RVP etc.

It's that time of year! The Manchester United injured XI! I think this is our strongest ever! Great balance, good blend of youth and experience, full internationals abound.

Lingard misses two guilt edged chances, and we lose again. Been a trend to his season. Not good enough.

McNair hasn't played this season for a reason - terribly not good enough.
Love has never played for a reason - not even remotely good enough.

Mata, Schneiderlein, Herrera, Depay and Smalling look shadows of themselves.

One common denominator. Sitting still. Down 2-1. No sub.

This is like some weird purgatory. I'd literally rather we got rid of LVG, stopped coaching altogether and let Rooney give a team talk each week.
 
And here was i thinking that the emergence of Lingard was the one positive element for Man Utd this season.

Beach and other fans should lower their expectations.

This Man Utd is not an global powerhouse anymore (financially it stilll is of course), but a Euro League level team, nothing more...

A couple of matches ago, i sincerely thought that United would finish the season strong, but clearly LVG is not the man to achieve this.

Oh and Beach, i see you put Fellaini in that team. I thought him being injured would be excellent news for you...it would only make the team stronger...

You can't bunr the candle from both ends: complaining about his injury after having said the rest of the season, that he should not play because he is not good enough...
 
@ Gerd - I wouldn't have Fellainin anywhere near my first choice starting XI for United. But he does get a mention as one of our 14 injured first team players.

United fans have lowered expectations from finishing in the top 2 every season to finishing in or near the Top 4, and playing some decent football. Should that be too much to expect from the club making the most money in world football? With the second or first highest wage bill?

LVG is actually defying soccernomics at the moment by underperforming so badly relative to wages.

Lingard is a nice story - local lad and so forth - but would he get anywhere near the first XI of Barcelona, Madrid or Munich? Absolutely and utterly nowhere on this green Earth no. And that's what Manchester United should be aspiring to.

It's not arrogance, we were in 3 consecutive CL finals not long ago. And have spent loads of moolah since then, and brought in what appeared to be very good players. But something is broken in the whole team, and that has to be fixed.

Schneiderlein, Herrera, Memphis, Carrick and to a lesser extent McNair (because he's just not good) looked like absolute shadows of the players they can be last night. When there's that much underperformance, it's not all of the players, obviously.
 
I do think that under a manager like Pep or Van Gaal, Lingard would regularly play for Barcelona and bayern Munchen.

He would not play for Real Madrid, but not because something is wrong with Lingard, but because there is something wrong with Real Madrid.

But after reading your post, i do understand your point; with that budget United should still be one of the best teams in the world...

IMO things have to change rather quick, look how long it takes Liverpool to be the absolute world beaters they once were. United can't afford to have 3 more seasons like this one...
