Microsoft Xbox 360

But there is a difference between 360 and PS3. I have noticed that when I have tried VT3 on both. The PS3 seems a bit blurrier and the 360 is sharper.

That's adjustable. i've seen the same thing when playing both games with the same tv settings. once you tweak the ps3 tv setting it changes.
 
I mentioned Pirates of the Caribbean before and that performs better on 360! smoother and less jerky movement
 
For those on the edge of their seat, wondering what happens next in my latest Xbox 360 saga... (Bearing in mind CW reckoned I'd be waiting "no more than five days")

I rang with disc drive issues on the 20th (Thursday) last week. They said they'd pick it up the next day, 21st (Friday), or on the 24th (yesterday) at the latest. Well, nobody turns up on Friday, nobody turns up yesterday, so I ring Mr. Microsoft this morning and ask what's going on.

Rang Microsoft at 2pm, got through at 2:30pm.

"Sir, it says on the system that UPS came out to you on Friday and you weren't in." - Well, I was in the house all day Friday waiting for them, even waiting up to 8pm in-case they worked that late, but no sign of them. So that's a crock of shit. Which I explain to the man - in a more polite tone, obviously. After explaining this to him, he then informs me I now have to ring UPS to arrange the pickup, quoting this number. Great!

Rang UPS at 2:30pm, got through at 2:45pm.

I quote the number, and their guy tells me "yeah, it says here the driver delivered the label to you on the 19th." After laughing out loud, I said "well your driver must do a bit of fortune-telling on the side then, because I didn't even ring Microsoft until the 21st!!"

His end went silent for a few seconds before he said "that's interesting, well you'll need a new tracking number from Microsoft now. Ask them to email it to you, it'll be quicker."

Rang Microsoft at 2:45pm, got through at 3:10pm.

I requested a new reference number, they said they would email it through as soon as possible.

Received email at 6:15pm. Rang UPS, got through at 6:30pm.

They took my details, asked if I lived in a strange building (well yeah, but you have to put up with parents, don't you?) and said they would be coming out tomorrow between 9am-5pm.

All sorted - only took four and a half hours!

The End. Or is it...
 
Sounds like all fun and games for you JB. You would think that M$ would be getting better at this whole thing with the amount of fucking practice they have had!!
 
Apparently the UK Repair Center (Havant) is so snowed under with dead 360's that they are having to ship a load of them to Prague for repairs! thats according to 360Gamer.

had my launch 360 die on me last week. 3 red lights

phoned microsoft and after 40 mins of holding get told by someone that doesn;t have a complete gtasp of the english language it will be £85 to have repaired, not impressed.

decided against having it repaired because of all the horror stories i've heard about refurbed 360s crapping out after a couple of months so i decided to buy a new core system with a more recent manufacture date and a new one year guarantee. attached my previous hardrive and now it won't let me play any of my arcade games when i'm not connected to the internet! wtf!?
it's the same hardrive that i downloaded them to when originally bought so i can't see the thinking behind this. i usually play the arcade games for short periods when my internet isn't working.

Yeah for some reason the arcade games become locked if you arent connected to LIVE, bit of a bastard but what can ya do

I've got one HDMI on the TV so it's a race between the 360 and PS3 to see who grabs it. If the PS3 gets a price-cut by the time that cable is out then I'm happy with a VGA setup for the 360, otherwise...
 
A quick question, Do any of you guys notice any difference between HDMI and VGA? What do you reckon JB?
 
Not really. I bought into the idea originally because I was told that, in 1080p, games were jaggyless (my biggest issue with the jaggies so far being the car aerials in PGR3 that are so thin, they disappear and reappear when you turn). But it's not true - at least, not for the PS3 games I've seen running via HDMI, which most definitely still have jaggies.

The difference is barely noticeable on games in my experience, but I've been told it's slightly more noticeable on films (especially high-definition ones that can take advantage of the larger resolution - i.e. they'll appear less blurry because there's no need to stretch the image). But for games and games only, the difference is marginal.
 
Ok cheers JB, I dont think ill bother with the HDMI connector thingy then. I use VGA right now and ill stick to it.

I know what you mean about Jaggies in PS3 games running at hig res. Motorstorm still has them at the best of times. It suffers huge on slowdown when a lot is happening..... that beats what someone once said to me "You wont see slowdown on a PS3 game" :) how wrong they were....

Croft says his company pulled the service after discovering problems with the motherboard, and that repairing the console wasn't financially feasible. Even after working on a number of machines, the company didn't feel comfortable with the end result.

"The work we had done to the console lead us to believe that basically it was a fault with the motherboard and not something that could be resolved easily. And it wasn't going to go away.

"Rather than lead customers up the garden path we'd walk away from it and tell them to go directly to Microsoft because they have the facility to replace the motherboard. If Microsoft has updated the motherboard for the new consoles that it's producing then presumably they've improved the existing model."

Croft said the company had written to Microsoft to inform it of the problems encountered but had received no reply.

"We're not taking that thing on board; we won't repair them. We originally did some work with it but it's labour intensive and it isn't really a feasible repair for us to undertake. We would probably end up charging GBP 100 for a repair and we still wouldn't be happy with the end result," he added.

Microsoft has faced a barrage of criticism over hardware failure and it's customer service. In February this year the company came under fire from the BBC's Watchdog programme, but responded that there was no systematic issue with the console.

^ im with you on this one Airjoca, ive had mine since Day 1 and im waiting for it to go. Ive got quite a few games for it so id end up having to buy another one! I aint paying MS £85 to get mine repaired seeing as its well out of warranty.
 
Reports on the internet are flooding in about the spotty reliability of the Xbox 360.

Micromart, an independent repair center in the United Kingdom, has refused to service bricked 360s, saying "This problem is endemic on the Xbox 360 console...and the volume has made this repair non-viable." According to a Micromart employee quoted on Shacknews.com, the problem "has been identified as a fundamental motherboard problem....The level we experience is unusually high and information on the many website forums seem to suggest it is far more widespread than our own information."

Another source is reporting that U.K. repair centers have been so overwhelmed by returns for repait, they are outsourching the fix-it jobs to other countries.

Microsoft's reponse has been close-to-the-vest. Y'know, things break," commented Microsoft's Peter Moore in May. "I'm not going to comment on individual failure rates because I'm shipping in 36 countries and it's a complex business." Microsoft has claimed a 3% failure rate for the console and has stated it is within acceptable limits for consumer electronics.

Haha, my nephew's just sold his. He had it for six months, during which time three of his mates from school had their 360s die. Another one went a few days ago so he's had enough, he bought it to play with his mates and he can't.

If Microsoft were honest the figure would be a pretty huge percentage. I'd love to know what it actually is.
 
If your 360 dies, don't contact Microsoft. Take it back to the store where you bought it, that is if you still have the receipt. According to EU regulations they have to give you a two year warranty on consumer electronics, so they have to give you a new one or fix it for free. That way even if you have a launch machine you're still covered.
 
jogi, what if you didnt buy it from a shop? I got mine off of ebay does that mean im proper fucked?
 
My 360 is messed up. It's making a loud hissing sound. I contacted Microsoft the other day via email. They were supposed to be getting back to me within 24 hours but they haven't. It's been over 2 days. Gonna call them later today.

I'm on my second console. I don't think I've had the second one for a year. Will they repair it free of charge then do you think?

I sent loads of emails complaining every time if they even bothered to reply it would be contact xbox support. Its a complete waste of time mate.
