PES2008 PS2 version is the lost game / video thread

Hi there people.
I was thinking about starting new master league with a PES game that I haven't played yet, and this is the one.
So after reading this thread I bought both PES 2008 and Winning eleven 2008. I am thinking to play WE 2008 because it doesn't have that salary bug.
What annoys me is that both games are little bit too fast, I feel it would be great if overall speed of the game would be slower maybe 10-15 %.
What this user geee was doing with editing statistics is great, so I would like to ask few questions? How long did it took you to edit all stats haha? When players retire and come again as youngsters do they have those edited stats? Generally how did you achieve that you covered all the players? Because if you miss some players and that players achieve speed 90+ through development in master they would be so overpowered so it wouldn't make sense. Thank for all the answers in advance.
And now regarding this issue a thought came to my mind. Just to clarify that I am noob in this kinds of stuff and just want to know is this that I am going to ask even possible?
So, would it be much easier if there could be made patch in .pnach format, that you could apply to .iso? For example if among those numbers/codes is there something that has value for example 100, which represents speed of the game, and someone change that number to for example, 90? And make that patch where overall game speed would be reduced 10 %? Is that possible? It would be awesome if someone could make something like that for Winning eleven 2008.
Thanks for all the answers guys!

I felt like lowering the game speed slowed down the CPU's attack AI a bit.

I have an emblem on PES 5 that I’d like to use in ML for WE 2008.

As PES 2008 OFs cannot be translated to WE 2008, I’m trying to work out the easiest way (within the in-game editors) to transfer this emblem.

Should I convert my PES 5 OF to WE9, then upload to WE10 and then WE 2008? Or upload to PES 6 then convert to WE10 before uploading to WE 2008…

This game even had an arcade version 😯:

Wouldn’t mind that in the living room!
And you know, watching that video, the player and ball physics of that game looks just like PES5/WE9/LE :CONFUSE:.

If true, then i'm now wondering if Konami actually combined their best PS2 gameplay physics engine (PES5) with their best PS2 AI (PES2008) in this more than obscure version that went under the radar for almost everyone, not trying to spread hype or similar, but just picture that possibility for a moment .

Oh wow, you’re right. It looks like a mix! Somewhere in this world, one of these (or the file) must exist…

Lol!

It even plays better than it looks because you can feel the weight of the players too.

I played Turkey (me) v Italy last night and it was the best game so far even though it ended 0-0. I found it really hard to get through their defense and they started pinning me back more and more. There Attack/Defense setting went from being middle and second highest to highest (full on attack) in the last 15 mins. I could really sense the urgency of their attacks. But when i broke they still had some defenders holding back to stop me.

One thing that is an improvement on PES5/WE9LE is it is no longer possible to exploit the wings. Basically the SB's keep their position and don't come inside all the time.

Don't get me wrong Topaz, the game still has its flaws. Like not enough free kicks (i loved the amount in PES5) but you do still get them. The ML only has 8 teams in Div 2. Cannot transfer between clubs as a manager. Things like that. But on the pitch it is awesome.

If PES2018's shooting is as souless as last year then i will not buy it. I will stick to 2008. Shooting is great in this because it really depends on the player, foot, positioning. Yes you can shoot from anywhere but it may be powder puff or it could go row Z. And its the same for the CPU. :)

Cannot agree more on the part about the side backs always go inside on PES5:LMAO:.

Most SBs act like contemporary Cucurella or Zinchenko..............wonder why those game designers were able to envision a tactic which could only be widely used almost two decades later.

Hey guys, I'm using @geeeeee's 24/25 season patch and it's working great, but the game is occassionally experiencing micro-stuttering during matches (PCSX2).

I was wondering if perhaps one of you could share what kind of PCSX2 (and/or Windows) settings you use for smooth gameplay? Thanks in advance.. :TU:

Q When I get home I will share my settings...in the meantime try to insert in the main folder of the emulator Anti-lag files as done for Pes 6/5

Hello,

FYI, I've (finally) completed the "deluxe" edition of my WE 2008 (PS2) OF.

This edition (on top of editing all existing teams and players who require it) edits the entire "other league C" teams with missing teams of the Champion's League 07-08 + other European, Latin American and Japanese teams.

You can find the link here if you want to try it.

For the 3rd game, as it was vs. Andorra, I made some turnover, with Andriy Shevchenko starting on the bench.
As I was down 1 goal half-time, I had to make him play the second half.

Milevskyy does not disappoint too, as each time he plays, he assists or scores.

Ranking-wise, we are good with 9/9 and next game vs. Malta.

Another easy victory, this time without the need to get my 2 main strikers on the field.
And again, Milevskyy did not disappoint !

And then another victory with Shevchenko not having to play in prevision of the next game which will be the big match against Netherlands.

A big Van Der Sar stpopped my strikers to score for the first time in these qualifiers...

And then another tight and difficult game where Shevchenko unlocked the situation in 2nd half.

This game was very important to keep some margin and secure at least the 2nd place. Standings after the 1st round :

Qualifiers completed.

Defeat vs. Bulgaria and draw vs. Slovakia in 2nd round. For the rest, only wins, even vs. Holland.

Fun to see a player from a hidden team in the top passers too.

The group stage will be hard to pass :

Another preview of the new Laziale 2026, played from the emulator, where I feel that I play less smoothly than on PS2, although I think this match went quite well, especially the second half.

As previously stated, I do agree this is the lost version. It’s incredibly fun and rewarding.

One annoyance that I’ve spotted however is the movement of defenders. If you look at the radar and replays, the defenders will make strange runs (ie the right back sprinting from a wing back position to a sweeper position), while the centre back runs away from the play altogether. This is the moment when the defence parts and a goal scoring opportunity can be made.

I wonder if this is part of the PES 6 engine as I do not see it happen regularly in PES 5 or WE9LE. Without exact research, it seems to happen most in 2008 and WE10, which also happen to be IMO the best AI in attack, so maybe this is a balance I’ll just have to accept!

The only thing that is missing is Online Multiplayer

Topaz, I am so pleased you are able to play the game and that you enjoy it too. It is definitely the best of the PS2 consoles because of the varied attack from the CPU teams and the individuality. Obviously it has its flaws like the 8 directional movement and some passes go to the wrong player. But I tend to blame the 'player' not the game.

How are you finding the speed? I actually used an editor to reduce all the player's speed by 10. That's Top Speed, Acc, Dribble, Passing. I find it a bit fast otherwise.

Are you able to use an option file with the emulator? I have one if you would like me to upload it for you? Won't be until tomorrow though.

Pleased you like it :)
Which editor are you using? I also want to batch-reduce all players' ability.

Just a casual question, what is the maximum graphic quality we can get from PS2 these days?

If you mean original hardware… Retrotink 4k probably but it’s incredibly expensive. Retrotink 2x is much better than the HDMI converters online. Retrotink 5x upscaling to 1080p is probably the middle ground but again not cheap.

Fun fact: The NTSC version of PES 2008 looks similar to the Japanese WE 2008 with Cristiano Ronaldo on the cover - as they’ve pushed aside Michael Owen. However, the Japanese version has Cristiano’s signature whereas the NTSC version does not!
