• Hotmail/Outlook (any Microsoft email services) folks. Microsoft is currently blocking our emails. We have raised a support ticket with them and will update when we can.

    In the meantime it's possible that adding robot@evoweb.uk to your address book/contacts will help and if you're able to switch to a different email provider, that would work fine.

    We have also increased the number of bounce emails we can handle before accounts are marked as requiring verification again to hopefully mitigate the issue a bit as well.

A world apart. The PS3 has been exceptional regarding fault problems. There are small cases of certain consoles being a little loud, but nothing more.

For the price you are paying I'd expect that sort of reliablility tbh.

Hang on a min you obviously havent heard about machines not working out of the box and crashing straight away. Also a firmware update released in Japan Bricked some consoles. Also some Blu Ray Drives have had dodgy mechanisms and havent been taking the discs in properley... Lets just say there has been problems...

Yes there have been problems, but they have not been on the huge scale that the 360 has experienced, but I guess we'll have to see with the European Launch as to how many people get problems here.

Exactly, nowhere near the 360. The problem is with the X360 people are still have problems well over a year after launch. Its a retailers nightmare. We sold a shed load over Xmas, but recieved a quarter back due to faults.

I have to say though Ive never had problems with my 360.

Uh Oh, you've gone and done it now, I made that statement on another site and BANG next day got the 3 red lights!! Since then I have had a further 2 faulty consoles, in the end I got the last one replaced and then sold it, just feel that while the 360 has some great games and very good potential, the machine is just to damn unreliable. Hopefully they can sort out the realiability issues then i'll buy one but until then no chance of me getting another one.
 
Im still on my first 360 since Launch.... I take it im tempting fate....

ive had a few minor issues with mine but nothing more.

Same here. The console crashes sometimes but I'm guessing it might be something to do with the power supply overheating cuz its right next to my other power supplies which also generate a lot of heat.
 
Any cracker games coming out at launch/summer to tempt me to buy this console people?

Virtua Tennis 3 is coming on 360 with lame 1080p support and L!ve.
 
Regarding the European launch, I can imagine there will be quite a few parents anxious to buy the next "Playstation" (the brand has become near iconic as Sony's "Walkman"). But the main problem is that there won't be anything at launch (or even nearby) to justify your purchase.

I remember buying the PSX because of Wipeout and Ridge Racer. The PS2 purchase was mainly because of Gran Turismo 3 (ironically, I didn't play it much because it got incredibly boring after a while).

Sony still have a great chance but it's down to Microsoft & Nintendo. If Microsoft continue to sell FPS after FPS and Nintendo don't keep the momentum going (where are the games Nintendo?!), I can see many (myself included) shifting over to Sony.

It was tounge in cheek really. I am just worried that game producers are spending more time making the game all "1080p" malarky, instead of working on the game. And I am still not convinced if the game is just upscaled 1080p.....

Actually it was just Sony Playstation, not Playstation 2. :mrgreen: (I'm watching it as I type. :lol:)

Anyway, about that upscaled 1080p. Seeing how the X360 already has 1080p, doesnt that upscale 720p to 1080p anyway?
 
I could justify buying at lauch over a 360

simply because.....

360 20gb - £280
wireless adapter - £60 = £340
play & charge - £15 = £355
Live 1 year - £40 = £395
HD-DVD? - £130 = £525

£100 more than PS3, for similar spec, whilst losing 40gb of space, and it doesn't look anywhere near as cool as the PS3

I'll definitely wait on the PS3 to see how it pans out - and truth be told, regardless of all its features, it could end up as an expensive mistake. TBH, I was perfectly happy with the PS2 anyway but I was offered the 360 and just thought why not? It's not like I'm a fanboy to any console (apart from the DC that is!) :D

It's the worst feeling investing in something which doesn't work out at the end. It's so tempting to sell my 360 + games and get a good price to invest in the PS3, but I could end up regretting it.

It's not a question of money but I try to live by the "one gamer, one console" rule ;). I just don't understand people who have multiple consoles - not only is it expensive but it must get confusing in deciding what to play! :eh:

But the thing is, with the Xbox 360, you can choose to not have those things while you're stuck with it on the PS3. First of all, the wireless adapter for the X360 is to let it connect to the internet wirelessly. The PS3 cant do that as far as I know. The wireless features on the PS3 are only for the pads or the PSP which basically makes it the same as the X360.
The play and charge kit might be useful for most but I personally dont make much use of it cuz the batteries always seem to die out whilst playing. So I keep my wireless pad connected via USB. If I had known better, I would have bought a wired pad.
The HD DVD isnt required to play games and I bought my console for gaming. So thats another cost that you can knock off for most people. The only thing that cant be justified is the £40 for Live.
Some could argue that the PS3 is a multimedia device and not just for gaming. But if thats what people were after, they would have just waited for the PS3 and not buy the X360. Yet the X360 has sold a lot of units meaning they're all most likely satisfying their customers.

it's true, but seen as I was going for similar spec....

how does the PS3 do web browsing and the like? it surely has to connect to the internet wirelessly, like the PSP?

Yeh very similar to the PSP. Lets you browse the web easily, although is a bit of a chore using the pad to navigate and input web addresses. Best to stick a usb mouse and keyboard in. But will anyone really be using the PS3 to search the net over PC?

Its interesting to see everyone trying to justify the PS3 price in a way. I think its easy to do regarding what you get out of the box BUT a games console should never be £425. Whatever the PS3 proposes to be able to do, first and formost its a games console. The price is just silly.

That is indeed big news :D

Games without the rumble (especially racing games) feel so empty - Phil Harrison must be consider us as idiots if he thinks we will believe Sony's excuse that rumble is "so last-gen"(!)

Although it's function is minor, it is a major downfall of the PS3 imo. There'll be good news (for once) from SCE HQ if they can rumble the pads again ;)
 
Can anyone confirm if i need to to buy a HD TV to get a PS3, my mate said that the graphics will be better on a HD than a regular TV.

Seriously thinking of gettting a PS3...
 
You will need to buy an HDTV to get the best put of your PS3, otherwise you will be losing out on alot of top quality visuals, certainly reports last year with the composite cable out of the box meant everything looking very fuzzy.

Good news on the rumble, well that puts a PS3 purchase on hold then till the rumble pad is standard in the box. You did forget you need to add a HD cable to yoru PS3, it comes out of the box with a composite cable which will give you bobbins visuals. So a tenner or twenty spot onto the price tag.

You can probably get most of that for a lot cheaper now, if you look around I reckon you could get the lot for £450 and that would come with a component cable that you need to buy seperately for the PS3, a much better online service, a larger selection of games and the choice to mix and match.

But I can understand not buying at launch.

Obviously in a years time the PS3 will be a lot cheaper too and have a lot more games, which is good for everyone.:)

No, but the makers of VT3 have said that VT3 will be antive 1080p on 360.


And on matherto's post. Not everyone needs wireless, wired is better for gaming. A lot of people will get standalone HD Optical players. Live, well mmmm... we will see how PS3 online goes.
