HELLO

I'm looking for the best Winning Eleven games to keep out on PS1 to add to my collection of multiplayer games to play against my friends.
The single-player experience isn't important to me.
I don't like Winning Eleven 1, the camera gives me a headache.

In Winning Eleven 2:
- J.League WE2 97 (the fastest)
- Goal Storm 97 / ISS PRO (less difficult than the previous line)
In Winning Eleven 3:
- J.League WE3 (the last one without automatic or assisted aerial volleys, and where you can tackle on your passes and on all loose balls)
- World Soccer WE3 98 Final (upgrade of ISS Pro 98 PAL*)
- J.League WE3 98-99 (upgrade of ISS Pro 98 (NTSC): smoother and The ball isn't almost glued to the foot when sprinting)
I still need to finish the selection to keep from WINNING ELEVEN 4, 5,6.
- World Soccer WE4 (more responsive than the others that followed, including ISS Pro Evolution, its clone)
- ???????
- PES 2 (WE6) or World Soccer WE6 2002 Probably

!! They all provide very different experiences !!

* ISS Pro 98 (PAL) is a different game than the ISS Pro 98 (NTSC); the movement is more arcade-like, it spins around like a top, and it has a different shooting system. him and this upgrade World Soccer WE 98 Final are not the same as the others

That'll make only 7 or 8 out of the 23 WE2,3,4,5,6. We can add ISS Pro 98 (NTSC) in addition to J.League WE3 98-99 for English language support and international teams, but the ball is too glued to the player's feet...

I've been playing non-stop for 3 weeks trying to find the differences.
I still need to finish analyzing the last seven:
- J.League WE4 2000
- World Soccer WE4 U-23
- J.League WE4 2000 2nd
- ISS PE 2 (WE4)
- J.League WE5 2001
- World Soccer WE6 2002
- PES 2 (WE6)

NOTE: World Soccer WE2 '97 is a upgraded and better version of GOAL STORM 97, but I don't know if the bugs in World Soccer WE2 '97 are due to emulators (tested with Beettle and DuckStation), the ISOs I tested, or the bugs in the original game... so if the bugs are confirmed, then get Goal Storm 97...
the bugs: no one-two pass ; and walk with ball in a diagonal direction (without r1) : It alternates between the two directions used to make the diagonal direction.

I have a more detailed French thread; I'll translate it into English when i finish:

Konami’s mumbo jumbo naming schemes on ps1 are a mess which wont help the readability of the thread, but the thread is great and i hope we get a few more suggestions like Energias Winning eleven 2002 which looks really fun. I use some PS1 and J2ME games as a "sensory reset" to desensitize myself to modern graphics. After a few weeks of just ps1 and j2me pes games, jumping back on to PS2 feels like you are playing a PS4.

Keeping these old games ready to play is as practical as it is fun, they're a useful tool to counter anhedonic adaption, hedonic treadmill and fixing the negativity bias in our brains against the ps2 games caused by playing the ps3 , ps4 games (or even seeing footage of them on youtube).

I am also can add such thing, that in much aspects very beautiful modern graphics is not so important, instead of common feeling "how game is build" with passion and love by developers.
At least for me, other peoples can, certainly, have their own preferences.
And even PS3 games with it's oudated graphics for me now cool playable with warm nice feelings inside.

Gameplay over graphics for sure.
If you have bad gameplay then the greatest graphics in the world won't help and then at the end of the day it's just a turd that has been polished

I think that I am have a one yet great example of game, where those developers, that doing graphics - do it 9/10, but for gameplay 3/10 and in result - game is not good.
Try to remember later exact name.
It was one of games looking like MS Series Halo in those old times.

I've been doing this too. I went back to 8 bit's (Trog! Double Dragon) for 2-3 weeks.
Then started on some 16-bit classics, & it makes you really appreciate & respect (some) games even more.

As for the PS1 PES, just like alot of others here, these are the ones that hooked me.
I was playing FIFA 98 / 99 all day & then hardly ever touched another FIFA again.

WE 2002 was the go to. I even made a USB along with ePSXe, took it to school & we'd sneak in a couple of matches in the communal room at lunch time  ..
Also I remember reading that the u23 - 2001 version is good variation too.
