The Retro FIFA Discussion Thread (All FIFA games by EA are welcome!)

i fired up fifa 2004 and enjoyed it on the gamecube so decided to play it on pc with the chance to mod it but it runs so bad? i tried everything including dgvoodoo etc. it will run at 60fps but looks and plays so stuttery and with lag almost.

i added render every ai frame to cfg and god knows what else but this potato game is acting like its red dead 2 being played on a pentium cpu

I've started playing FIFA 13 on PC again with a patch featuring the lower Italian leagues. Well, what can I say? It really feels like being on an 11-a-side football pitch, not like FC...

I used to love 13 back in the day definitely one of the better games from EA

Gave up on 2004 and I tried 2005 which runs butter smooth and is basically a 2004 update and improvement anyway. The AI is really overpowered on world class but I like the challenge

Picked up FIFA 06 recently and I was pleasantly surprised:

I found out that the CEP, which is probably the best patch I ever saw anyone make for sixth-gen FIFA (in fact, it was the 08 version that inspired me to seek similar patches both on FIFA and PES and "complete" them - and failing that, make my own), already existed as far back as 06.
I mean, there were still quite a few kinks to work out on it (the update they put out actually deleted some leagues, so I chose not to use it), and the fact that this is still when Rinaldo was beginning to make tools for the game and didn't have his all-in-one Creation Master yet (coinciding with the last year of Chau Le's Creation Centre which, in all fairness, didn't quite do everything) means it's quite a bit of a task to get it all up to standard, but on the whole it's a lot of fun, especially on Manager Mode, which feels more like FM with the larger database.

So many good memories linked with this game.
One of old soccer games, where was started my journey in World of Soccer Simulators.
But some time later I was found out about may be not so good looking, but "catching in details the feeling of football" - Pro Evolution Soccer 3.

Could you please link to this patch? Does it faithfully recreate Serie C's structure?

It's not close in years, but there is still CEP 11 working for Fifa 11, not the same creator and this 11 version is more stable. Can be found on SG, maybe even here on Evo is a link if i remember.

Became insterested in modding because i found CEP 06 on accident and couldn't beleive that's posible. I was part of that CEP 11 project since i also searched for something simmillar. It actually started as CEP 10 but it was a lot of work.

Isn't that one just European and South American leagues?
For FIFA 11 I usually go for tokke001's mods which are more comprehensive.

Probably that's the one, CEP 11 was finished almost 15 years ago and never updated. But it still was decent for that time, since not many people contributed.

Of course, tokke is doing tremendous job with older FIfas with all of his Tools and Converters, mods and improvements.
Simply can't decide which retro Fifa I should play to relax a lil'.

FIPP13 seems working fine
I remember FIPP being a very interesting project, giving Italian fans the chance to experience also exotic teams from lower divisions that would never make it to any FIFA otherwise (much like Triskele Mod now and Italian Coffee for Football Life).
TheBaddie and his teammates really did a great job back then!

@TheKusanagiBlade you made me want to try a thing with FIFA 14... I'm reviving a very old project that I had started back in the day and that I then abandoned because I thought it would be too difficult to complete 🫨

Players are of course going to be the original FIFA 14 ones, but... With names and surnames totally changed.

So, while it's true that you'll still find Eugenio Morais (the unlicensed version of Cristiano Ronaldo) in Real Madrid and Portugal, it's also true that apart from the superstars (which will be somehow recognizable even if I'm disabling all the "real" faces so all players would have an ingame-generated face) there will be players that shouldn't be immediately recognizable so in a career mode perspective scouting would be more important.

Player names are done, need to play a couple of seasons (or even more) in career mode to see if scout names are credible (they should!) and if (most important) regen names are coherent.
For that reason I had to use "neutral" surnames for French players, for example (so as to not have the risk to have a regen with pink skin named Konko or M'Vila to name two random surnames of French players of African descent).
If you wish to know more about player names handling you could refer to this post in SoccerGaming which I made several years ago (the first time that I actually thought I'd create a "FIFA International Soccer 2014"). I am aware that leaving those four tables empty this is a sub-optimal solution, but I couldn't by the life of me handle them without having the game crash so I decided to nuke them altogether.

I then might go the extra mile and add some of the "old" players from FIFA International Soccer and ISS Deluxe as 16/20 years old "regens" here and there (maybe changing the first name and pretending that they are the sons of the original players from the '90s).

Let's see how it turns out being!

EDIT: gotta update that Ermenegildo Ferretti, as Ermenegildo used to be an Italian given name but I feel it isn't used anymore since the end of World War I or shortly after).

Have you a mode like FIPP for Fifa14?

Unfortunately not. After FIPP 13 I don't think they made another.
The only patch that got close to it in spirit is the Triskele mod but as far as I know it's been released for the first time for FIFA 20.

I've been playing fifa 13 I get a bug every so often where the menu freezes during matches, anyone solved this?

Technically not FIFA but I was playing UEFA Champions League 2006/2007 on PC (the Xbox 360 version is better IMO) and saw this recreation of the 2005/2006 final in the game, thought it was quite cool and EA definitely wouldn't be able to pull this off now as the gameplay would look ridiculous 😆

Technically is Fifa I'd say. It's Fifa with updated squads, UCL branding/kits & the secondary divisions/national teams removed

EA recreates one Bundesliga goal after each match day, and their modern recreations frankly look a lot better than that UCL final.

This looks like a fun idea, but for the Brazilian players you could use a mix of first names, surnames, first name+surname and nicknames (a good starting point is deriving them from their first name e.g. Ronaldo -> Ronaldinho), to make it look more plausible. Same for Spanish and Portuguese players too.

I'd also try to make the teams' logos and kits generic, but looking just close enough to the real thing. I remember when I made the first FIFA teams on Creation Centre for FIFA 13, I drew some fictional badges for each team on Photoshop based on the real ones to use with them, to help sell the "fantasy" angle of the whole thing.
Like in these screencaps I took from UEFA Striker for the Dreamcast (note that some clubs even have fake sponsors):

This video from ISS on the PS2 is also good to give an idea of what it's like, before they decided "screw this, let's just put a little flag there":

Insane goal in the FIFA 15 demo on ultimate difficulty, back when the demos let you play an ultimate team match, I have the full game but I wanted to experience FUT once more in this game. I love Ignite engine FIFA so much

guys, it's been a loooong time, but are fifa 2001 and 2002 don't let us select home/away team uniforms? i tried two different versions of each games and game itself decides which one (home or away) to use.

Correct. FIFA 2003 was the first to introduce kit selection. And also the first to introduce third kits. It's worth noting though, FIFA 98 had an automatic kit clashing system
