Right now, trying out PES2008 on the PS2 emulator.

A little impression so far, this game has to be the final PES6 based product to some degree, pretty challenging especially the attacking force from the opponent, comparatively PES6 is way too easy.

PES5/WE9LE is pretty cool and contains many physical battles and its own charms, yet personally I think PES2008 is harder to score and defend.

Isn't an R2 button responsible for more controlled/finnesed shots? Both in FIFA and PES.

I honestly played PS2 PES games for a year now, but im still unsure about that haha.

Im just sure that in PS3/PS4 R2 stands for a finesse shot.

I think PES 2008 on the PS2 was very good! PES 5 is still my favorit!

Agree, ever so slightly slower in the build up. Fewer bugs too, but still the salary bug if you have Other Teams C players.

PES2008 has been more fun for multiplayer due to the increased speed - it’s the perfect PES6, but WE2008 is better for single player.

But, with WE2008 you just got to get used to O for accept and X as back. My only other console is a switch so it works fine but for those used to X as accept, it’s a faff.

Also a question for @PES4eva and @Juventino32 who I know have played both, is the English commentary less frequent on WE2008 than PES2008? For me it seems so, but it could be placebo due to the slower pace.

After all these years, I’ve only just realised the stars on the front covers of both PES and WE titles:

After PES 6, the naming changed to years as we know.

PES 2008 has 7 stars after the title (PES 7)
PES 2009 has 8 stars
PES 2010 has 9 stars
PES 2011 has 10 stars
PES 2012 has 11 stars
PES 2013 has 12 stars
PES 2014 has 13 stars

WE have the corresponding number of stars too! After Winning Eleven 10:

WE 2008 has 11 stars (WE11)
WE 2009 has 12 stars etc etc

The PSP versions too - PES and WE 2008 were the third iterations on PSP and so have, you guessed it, 3 stars.

Yes if I recall correctly it also works like that for PES in the pre-match loading screens (but I've not been playing them lately so there's the chance I got confused).

I honestly think that the J.League version of WE2008 is the most fun one when it comes to the AI. My main issue with PES2008 or WE2008 was the AI dribble frequency. After playing J.League version for a few months, the AI way less dribbles throughout the match, this applies to european teams too.
