I have released an update for my Winning Eleven 8 Liveware Evolution patch.

VERSION 2.0 RELEASED
  • Newly updated translation based on the official English text from Pro Evolution Soccer 4 and Pro Evolution Soccer 5.
  • Restored the 2004/2005 season database using the Reefur 0.9 patch as it's base. The reason for moving back to the 2004/05 season database is that the 2005/06 update by Team Reefur was not fully finished when it was originally released in August 2005 and I felt it would be better to have an accurate database for the prior season rather than an unfinished one. I have kept all of the remaining parts of the 2005-2006 patch such as boots, balls, adboards etc.
  • Updated team names.
  • Updated player names.
  • New font applied.
  • Updated balls.
  • Restoration of original stadiums replacing the fake Allianz Arena, Bay Arena etc.
  • Corrected stadium names.
  • Fixed 200 WEN salary bug for Japanese and South Korean nationality players.
  • The SLPM executable included in the ISO image now has a built in widescreen patch applied, so no need for a separate widescreen.pnach file for PCSX2 anymore!
  • SLPM also includes High LOD and no-interlacing patch applied.
  • Stock SLPM provided for PS2 hardware.

Nice!

Good idea to restore the original menu and music :)

So, now you dont have to use any of the patches for the widescreen? because when i load it up, the game is in 4:3.

Yes it should play fine in Widescreen as it’s using the widescreen fix from Super Camera Editor applied directly to the SLPM. Ensure PCSX2 is set to widescreen.

Hi everyone,
I’ve just rediscovered my old PS2 with a Free McBoot (FMCB) mod, and I’m trying to get everything set up again from scratch.
Unfortunately, I lost my old hard drive that was full of games, so I have to rebuild my collection 😢

Could you recommend the best PES versions and/or option files for PS2 these days? I’m a bit confused about whether it’s better to stick with older classics or try some of the newer modded versions.
What I’m mainly looking for is a solid experience for Master League or full seasons.
Also, is the best PS2 version still JLWE2008CC (Winning Eleven 2008 Club Championship), or are there better alternatives now?
I also keep seeing a lot of YouTube patches based on Pro Evolution Soccer 2014, but I’ve honestly never played that one before—how does it compare in terms of gameplay and realism on PS2?
Any advice or recommendations for the best setup in 2026 would be really appreciated 👍

Great work brow!
I've been played your others patchs, its so cool!

Let me ask @BillyKong did you had the reefur's patch reefur's we8 jl-ac?

If you had, can you make re upload please?

Thanx anyway!

I think a lot of these PS2 games offer different forms of gameplay :)

PES 5 would be the most realistic but i dont like it that much because of toothless AI, but in terms of the gameplay, i would say its the most realistic.

I honestly think you should give a shout WE8LE (the one that BillyKong postted just above) it was my first pes that i played after a long pause from them, it feels like a classic ps2 PES.

JLWE2008CC for me is the most complete, a lot of variety in the gameplay (even though its very attack based) and the best AI in the PS2 series :)

Nowadays i just play WE8LE, JLWE2008CC and PES 3

Hey guys, i know this might be a long shot, but does anyone know if there's a tool or a way with Cheat Engine to change the Growth Curves of a player in PES 2008 PC AFTER starting ML? I'm playing with the World Patch, and I just signed a player who I want to change his growth curve as I believe it is unrealistic, but I'm already midway through my first season.. Any help would be much appreciated.. Thank you in advance!

Great work my friend @BillyKong, was waiting (patiently) that moment for a long time but today i'm sick as F*** 😓
I wanted to give you some love for you and of coursE @jackallan for the big big work.

Overall, graphically, it's way better than i expected the pitch etc. everything looks so clean even on a real PS2 with the base SLPM.
You know that's my favorite WE/PES on PS2 already (same as you i think), so i'm ever more gratefull for your work. Big thanks to concretise something i couldn't dream : that game fully licenced.
Later i'll plan what i told you before... But it won't be for now on.

Already checked one or two things (couldn't resist), but you did enough already guys (better to get some rest for both of us haha)

After playing today i think this might be the most complete and replayable PS2 PES to play nowadays.

if someone havent tried it yet, give it a try. Especially the J.League teams, it really feels like the game was balanced for this level of players.

@BillyKong Do you maybe know if there is a possibility to change the difficulty of the existing ML via code or something? My current ML that im 4 season in currently is on Superstar, but that Extreme difficulty felt really tight and even more challenging in a good way, but sadly this PES does not give you the ability to change the difficulty after you created it.

For the vast majority of WE/PES games from the PS2 era, only when using J1 teams or "weaker teams" of the same level does the pace become relatively close to that of real football.

No unfortunately I don’t know of a way to do that sorry. Maybe there is a way via Cheat Engine?

I can't tell yet if it definitely 100% is more difficult than either Top Player and Superstar so it is interesting to hear your feedback so far!
Its hard to say but i feel like AI is more solid in pressing and defense, but i noticed some weird passes in offense from AI, this might be beauty of J.LEAGUE 2 teams, but i remember struggling more. Its hard to say for now, but there is something different about it :)

I found Extreme much easier, the defence left more gaps than on Top Player. The attack dribbled more and so were more predictable.

But I get thrashed in top player, so different play styles, eh!

Yeah, i think after playing a few games its not harder, its a weird difficulty haha.

For me it presses better but plays worse in offense, it seems like an unfished dev difficulty.

I went back to my ML on superstar and its harder.
I might have just felt a little bit cocky about superstar difficulty because im currently 2pts off first place in the league after 10 games, even though i havent won any throphy yet in that ML after 3 seasons lol

That game looks so much better now, like a fresh air has been added :)

Yeah like i always said difficulty depends of how are your own playing style. I was very good in Defense on Fifa with or without tactical defense, but not that much in PES, my best skills was fast-passing play, Keeping the ball with dribble and found long shoot opportunities.

For example many people find that PES 3 is the more "balanced", but the way i play, i got pretty easy to score long range shoots and dribbling people.
WE7 and WE7I i agree that they're balanced, but not as good balance (in terms of reality vs score and action, so ATT/DEF) as PES5.

And multiple people said that WE9 was the more "sim" because scores where tight... But from my own experience, that game is perhaps very fun as we love to get difficult to pass a defence, but unbalanced in other way.
We did a cup and a league the time WE9 gets out (8 players, two teams), and the final top 3 was weird : PSG won the league and another half-strong team won the cup, Lazio if i remember (not the strong one we got in PES1)

We always choosed a first and a second team in terms of overall strength regarding real football + their Octagon. And not the stronger of us won the league with his second (so, the weaker) team. In comparison to all the palmares we got when we started from PES1 to PES6 / counting the WE translated so we did almost 12 leagues if i remember / WE9 got the less logic final result when you know the team's owner level and the team level itself.

I remember now that Seabass said that he wanted to make lesser big teams competitive on a certain version sorry to not remember what he exactly said but when (which PES) he stated it i remember more or less than it was around PES5. The purpose of it was that on WE9/PES5 times, to recompense the player first and also for people playing more their favorite small club and be more or less competitive on versus human or CPU.
Probably less in PES5 but the difference between players and stats were pretty low if you considers all of it, even if their playing style were pretty nicelely reproduced, even strenght and weakness : but defense part was too strong, so we can't call it "balanced".

JLWE2008cc is kinda subtle to defend as well as PES 2008, it's more AI than physically based and there's more space, and it's perhaps the one that you can feel that attacking and defending are superbly balanced. To me the most balanced of all or should i said the most "realistic" regarding actions / goals / saves (gk or def.) compared to real football.
But WE/PES 2008 got it too, a bit more offensive but scoring gap between the two aren't that consequent : attacking actions in counterpart are more numberous, and even if there's a good midfield battle on both versions, JLWE2008 is enhancing even more that part of the game : for sure there's more time spend in the midfield than the two others : but it's not a THAT big difference that will makes me give up on the 2 previous versions.... With national teams.

Yes but with big teams there more dynamism and so, more thing to do with our controller > gameplay and things to do are more consequent so it's more fun.
Does a 10 or 15 minutes match, even if you remove all the time-outs and only focus on what's happen on the pitch is something realistic?
Hell no. You shouldn't see a little more "speed" in some version as blocage : it brings fun and dynamism and doesn't remove the realistic side that much.

I was exactly thinkin' like you yearsss ago, but after testing almost all football games i came to that conclusion : game speed isn't a barrier IF it's not too fast.
And also that big teams are of course better represented in terms of players skills than weaker one, if you're a stats freak like me you would like to play with big teams with their stars the way the same way you see them on TV's in the past too lol.

Did you checked on stuffs like "Option/System" and then "install datapack"?
That was the way to get "special" dlc on PES 2014, i don't know if it works on 2012 or 2013 version.

We never had to install a special DLC like J. League a decade + ago so... Hope you will found the way to do it. Never tried a J.League game on PS3's trio versions such as 2011-2013, i'm would really love to test too to see how everything was handled (presentations, stadiums, ID's players etc.) but it's obviously on those 2 PS3 versions that J-League should be really overdetailled and immersive above all games.
