~ Crimson Desert ~

Phew I am happy for everyone enjoying the game but calling journalists urinalists and so on goes in a direction I am usually only used to by certain fanatics. I am used to that there will be different opinions. Not every journalist will like the games I like and vice versa. Critique is always subjective. But name-calling is just weird to be honest. The opinion someone else has about a came will 0 influence how I personally feel about a game so it is just weird. I still read Eurogamer and other magazines because it is a viewpoint no matter if I agree with them or not.

I also bought the game to take a look: and it is not for me.

Love the Witcher, Cyberpunk, Baldurs Gate, Divinity 2 and many more but Crimson Desert doesn't catch me.

The world feels to me like a theme park filled with everything but doesn't give me the feeling of a real lived in world like Gothic or KCD 2. So I get what Eurogamer meant in their review. For me it is also empty. Not because there aren't things there but it misses for me what for example made Gothic 2 so special. Less can sometimes feel like more when done right

Everything just feels placed instead of lived in. The controls on console are a catastrophe and I do understand the criticism. They could have done a better job there.

The fighting feels great but I also get the bloated MMO feel from the quests.

In the end just not my cup of tea which is too bad since I usually love those kind of games.

But for me it all starts with the world itself which as weird as it might sound is way too clean for what it should be. I just can't immerse myself in it and now have switched to Greedfall 2 for now.

OK you don't like name-calling, but the people who do it are fanatical & wierd... nice one.

We are writing amongst ourselves, it's not a national newspaper, relax mate.
Anyway I think urinalist is hilarious & not too far off the truth :))

There may be 1 or 2 unbiased, non-corrupt reviewers left. But that doesn't change the last 15 years of utter rubbish & blatantly BOUGHT-off reviews.
Now go read whatever you want, but don't call peoples actual opinions here "fanatical" or "wierd", just because it doesn't fit your narrative.

I understand @Jay-Jay 10 's take, for real... same way I understand people that loved the game like @PRO_TOO and @etb10dmk ... But I can't respect (less alone like) "fanboyism"... 'cause it's a form of fanaticism / even sociopathy, really. I'm OBVIOUSLY not talking about our good couple of friends here (which I already mentioned), but as I wrote on IGN, some people need validation on stuff that they've spent money on... It's sort of a psychological condition called "buyer's remorse". It stems from cognitive dissonance. In other words, it's a disorder that must be treated. ABSOLUTELY NO ONE should stand for a company that see you as a freakin' NUMBER on a spreadsheet (most, if not ALL companies).

Now you're talking, especially the last part (in BOLD)... I mean, The Last of Us part 2, ANYONE?!?!

Now go read whatever you want, but don't call peoples actual opinions here "fanatical" or "wierd", just because it doesn't fit your narrative.
Well, etb10 kinda called some people "urinalists" (and I agree it's a great word! LOL ), for having a different opinion than his... isn't that the same? It's a genuine question on my part...

4. Mod Support

The CEO acknowledged the potential of a modding community, especially given the game's sandbox structure. However, he noted that supporting mods requires opening up a significant portion of the proprietary engine.
Now this, I take with a grain of salt. The last part, of course. I know it was more than 10 years ago, but CDPR (a dev that was about the same size as Pearl Abyss at the time) released a creation kit with Witcher 3, which also has proprietary engine, namely REDengine 3. It allowed modders to create some of the best mods ever seen in the HISTORY of gaming. This is some total BS corporate talk by the Korean dev, and with all due respect, F**K him for saying it.

Yes friend, it is exactly the same thing. That's why I pointed it out :)) The hypocrasy is real.

Everytime I see this @Jay-Jay 10 post, he is dismissing opinions & going for personal attacks.
But he is always quick to defend million dollar establishments  These are the real fanboys ..

EDIT: to get back on topic .. I trust the reviews & opinions of my fellow gamers here. & I know there were some very good dev's working on this game. To my surprise, the CEO has come out & said there are no plans for DLC package$ or multiplayer, but they will continue polishing & improving the game with free updates. Seems like a direct response to the gaming community & their grievances.

They are listening now, because they have to. More & more people are voting with their wallets, & the suits don't want a repeat of the 80's gaming crash.

You totally missed my point but okay. I just don't think attacking people doing their job is okay. A critic in the end gives his subjective view.

Eurogamer didn't fully like the game, that should be acceptable. For this game I share their view there have been other games where I don't. Stephanie Sterling gave Breath of the Wild a 7 out of 10 which I fully disagree with, but I still read the reviews on Jimquisition to see a different perspective than mine.

Also I don't think anyone who works as a journalist in gaming is a millionaire. Who I am actually defending here is people just doing their job, people who are no different from you and me with the same struggles we have. Also while not saying no review is bought off, the majority isn't. There have been enough scandals for gaming magazines now to act differently. There have been enough games where developers flew in journalists, presented the game while paying for food and hotels and the game in the end still was a 5 or 6 out of 10. In a time where shareholders have a majority part in companies not many would risk anymore to have happened what happened in the past like the Jeff Geestmann incident, because it would cause major damage.

Also no I didn't call anyone fanatical or weird. I know exactly what I said: I said the behaviour reminds me of what I see from fanatics and I find that behaviour weird. This is an important distinction: I respect every user on here and that is why I find it weird to go in such a direction to call someone urinalists or corrupt. There is a lot of great gaming journalists out there who have done a lot to expose for example what happened in studios regarding mistreatment of workers.

But that they behave that way doesn't make a person weird or a fanatic. I am just thinking that we can be better than that and don't need to steep to such behaviours. It reminds me about discussions about "Go woke go broke" and grifters like SmashJT and I am tired of these things. I see enough of it on other Social media and am happy that the discussions here on Evo Web are not part of those "Culture Wars".

But I leave it at there. I have no horse in the race regarding Crimson Desert. Like I said happy for the people who enjoy it but not my cup of tea, but that I or a journalist don't like the game, shouldn't bother you or diminish the fun you are having. If you want to talk about anything else my DMs are open.

A critic in the end gives his subjective view.

Whilst I don't agree with name-calling just because you disagree with someone's review, I can't from my own experience say that critics/reviews are necessarily subjective, I remember when we (Bohemia Interactive) released Operation Flashpoint: Elite on Xbox it got a number of different review scores, wasn't the best game ever, wasn't the worst game ever, but one magazine gave it 10/10, another magazine gave it 1/10. We paid for an advertisement in one of the magazines, can you guess which one?

It did give us a great tagline for marketing though, in the 1/10 review the reviewer said the only positive was that "it's better than going to war for real", so we used that in marketing ;)

That's why I said not all of them. I do however think it has changed in recent years. There is still some black sheep but you also know how to take some. In Germany for example 4players was famous for controversial reviews. But yeah for example I know German websites will always be nicer to German games.

(EDIT: This is a very interesting video describing how unfair CD was treated during release by those "gaming" websites that wanted so hard to see this game fall)

Also, this video to me sounds like totally paid P.R., I'm sorry... Dude's voice doesn't even sound real, his channel has very few followers, he doesn't even seem to know the meaning of what "plausible deniability" is. Guess he thought sayin' it would make him sound smart, but it only backfired. He clearly have a problem with semantics, same way he keeps using the word "condescending" totally out of context... Again, a true fanboy with a small audience that took things personally...

Now, if we really want some context, this one has much more:

DON'T let yourself get fooled by the title. The author LOVED the game. But he ain't biased. He pointed a big flaw in the game (about 3:45 minutes into the video) that I've seen absolutely NO ONE (but him) talk about. And in the end he correctly points out the biggest absurd IGN said about Crimson Desert, when it compared with the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, an absurd that I pointed out myself a few posts back in this thread.

126 subscribers (guy's only looking for views in his channel), and he goes like: "How does a game sells 3 million copies in 5 days...?"

Short answer: HYPE and word-of-mouth (which is a GOOD thing!)

Again, game is probably VERY good. And I'm really glad people enjoy it, and as I said before, I really do intend to buy it in the future.

But this need for validation 'cause freakin' IGN or any other big media outlet that rated the game with mediocre / "only good" scores is exactly the "buyer's remorse" I talked about earlier. If you and everyone else like the game, then you an everyone else like the game!! That's basically it! What difference is gonna make FOR YOU (or anyone else that purchased it) if the big outlets change the score to an 8 or a 9...?

Short answer again: ZERO difference.

Mad Max is a GREAT example... The game totally flopped score wise (mostly 6, on big outlets) and I enjoyed THE HELL out of that game! What difference would it make to me personally, if gamespot all of the sudden went "oh, we're re-reviewing the score of this 2015 game and will go from a 6, to an 8.5, to be more in line with the IGN score and such"... It doesn't make a difference.

the CEO has come out & said there are no plans for DLC package$ or multiplayer, but they will continue polishing & improving the game with free updates.
This is awesome... No multiplayer = no problem. All the better. The term "free updates" really gives me the chills. Imagine if suits decide in the future to CHARGE for updates in single player games. As in, PAID updates. Total collapse.

That said, I hope this game really changes the tide in which the industry sees single-player action/RPG games. Baldur's Gate 3 (which you can also play co-op) kinda started kickin' that door in, and I believe Crimson Desert sent it down crashing (again, that's awesome). Current gaming is nothing but online services, micro-transaction infested, card / casino gambling galore and it's just sickening. This game literally SHAKING the foundations of this current state of gaming, to me it's even better than the game itself being good (or not), for real.

Hmmm, I realized that I had everything from the start maxed out, didn't tweaked anything in the first place (2k, max-cinematic settings and RTX options ON with DLLS4.0 / Quality), but could be nice to learn those differences between graphical options to opt for better clarity or to go for a lesser hardware intensive route...

Regarding gameplay, I watched some great tips and tricks videos, some of them I didn't even realized were in CD, like throwing food on the ground and cooking it with your sword's sunlight reflection, or how to pass through waterfalls (that's crazy ). One part that I like the most is when you can do those backward turns from ground sliding. During combat engagement that combined with a variety of movements like aerial spins, feels so rewarding and looks so badass!

EDIT: a second one regarding camp management and customization...

Some of my impressions. Words are needless! 😊

Gotta go… the update is installed. 😍

Edit: btw, if users here wanna have a look, I can set up a live stream for you. Ask me questions, let me do stupid stuff for you, I’m glad to share… let me know. 👋

Video recap of the latest patch notes:

The key usage confirmation feature, consuming less stamina on gliding and the increased storage was a must. They have worked quickly in solving problems. 😍

Btw @PRO_TOO , how is your experience in Pywell playing with that headset on? 🎼 :D I'm using a Logitech G ProX headset and the experience is awesome...

Yes. Started with tv speakers but switched to my new Fractal Design Scape real fast.
Amazing directional sounds; lots of oomph!! 🥳

I have to say I kind of find the discussion amusing that Youtube reviewers are so more highly believable than Journalists.

I mean journalists are "clearly bought". Youtubers never receive something free, except for: Game Codes, Sponsorships, flown to events, exclusive previews. There is a clear difference between both sides.

Or is the reality in the end more, that you agree with who ever fits your personal views more?
Even throughout journalists you will find different views. Gene Park who is for example highly respected, at first wasn't sure about Crimson Desert but is liking it more and more. Others don't. Thats literally what reviews should be like.

That's why people liked Siskel and Ebert, because they would argue about movies with different views, since Ebert for example loved some really trashy movies.

CD is truly unique, a game that rewards player's curiosity and the sense of exploration; a growing community that shares crazy adventures and new discoveries:

This is the kind of game that will distract your attention a lot on your travels to complete missions. Along the way you can be ambushed by a group of bandits, or attacked by some wild animals, or greeted dynamically on the road by folks asking for your help; or intrigued to check some glowing place during a rainy night (then stop checking it!); or finding some puzzles to solve during your travel; or just go hunting, taming, or fishing, but some eagle snatches that fish before you can equip the fishing rod. Then you just realized that you started some mission, but that single mission in the end took like 4 or 5 hours of your particular journey...

Or is the reality in the end more, that you agree with who ever fits your personal views more?
Again, "buyer's remorse". It doesn't matter if a person likes and enjoys the game. The fact that other people don't share the same opinion as them, makes them suffer, and as a consequence, they look for validation to kinda "ease" that pain... The "console wars" brought that up in full force, and it didn't begin with Sony vs. Microsoft. Nintendo vs. SEGA was already going full force in the late 80's / early 90's (for you who's old enough like me to remember): "SEGA does what NINTENDon't", and it went from there. Although it was way different back then, mostly all games were exclusives... and if a game from the same franchise was on both consoles, they had a lot of differences in-between them (games like Alladin and Jungle Book come to mind, but there's tons of other examples).

Gene Park who is for example highly respected, at first wasn't sure about Crimson Desert but is liking it more and more. Others don't. Thats literally what reviews should be like.
To a true fanboy (terminal case of buyer's remorse) that simply doesn't matter. It must be unanimous. EVERY single person must like the product they spent their money on, or again, they'll suffer.
