FIFA Total Football 1 and 2 are versions of FIFA 2004 and FIFA 2005 respectively, adapted for the Japanese market. They are hybrids between FIFA 2004/2005 and WE7/WE8, which makes for some very interesting games in my opinion that flew under the radar completely.
FTF1 is a bit clunky, but FTF2 plays very well. They are both very different than FIFA 2004/2005, and are using PES/WE control style and stats/formations.
The games had English menus and locale in the data, so it was easy to patch to English. Player names are not translated. For any translation errors blame EA, not me.
Both games have widescreen option in settings natively.

Now, why players are not translated:
In the DB, names are like this:
First Name: Japanese
Shirt Name: ENGLISH
Surname: Japanese
I tried to use AI to help translating and copying the names of the players in the DB for Total Football 2, but no matter what I did this let to formation edit screen hanging.
You can play friendlies or see formations in-match, but go to the extended formation options in the main menu or in franchise mode and it is missing players and hangs. It clears all the players after the first english named player.
There should be a way, but I don't have the patience or the time for troubleshooting more.
In FTF1 there is an english db file, but it is different from the actual file the game uses, and causes the game to hang if used.
I tried converting the original FIFAJ.db with UniDB and changing all names with the names from the english db provided in the game files, and then repacking, and it still hangs.
I also tried repacking the isos with new iml's since this was the way I fixed FIFA Soccer World Championship, but it was a no-go.
UniDB opens FTF1 database but not FTF2 database. No tool I tried opens FTF2 database, I had to hex edit it.
DB Files to edit are DATA\CMN\FIFAJ.db in FTF1 and DATA\CMN\FIFAJ.db and FIFAVJ.db in FTF2.
